Revised, belated and updated return filing
You missed the deadline, or you filed and then found a mistake.
Form: The same form as the original return
What is included
- A check on which route is actually open to you โ revised, belated or updated
- The late fee and interest calculated so you know the cost before you commit
- Correction of the error, with the original figures preserved for comparison
- Filing and acknowledgement
What we need from you
Send what you have. If something on this list is missing we will tell you which item it is, rather than leaving you to work it out.
- The original return and its acknowledgement, if one was filed
- The documents relating to whatever was missed or misstated
- Form 26AS and AIS for the year
- PAN, Aadhaar and bank details
A revised return and an updated return are not the same thing, and the difference is expensive
A revised return corrects a return you already filed, within the window allowed, and costs nothing beyond any tax actually due. An updated return is a different mechanism with a much longer window, but it carries additional tax on top of what you owe, and it cannot be used to reduce your liability or to claim a refund. People use the words interchangeably and then discover that the cheap option closed months ago. Which one applies to you depends entirely on the date, so the first thing to establish is where you are in the calendar.
How it works
- 1 Send your documents
WhatsApp them, email them, or walk into the office. We will tell you exactly what is missing rather than leaving you to guess.
- 2 We review and compute
We reconcile everything against AIS and Form 26AS, and calculate both tax regimes so you file under the lower one.
- 3 You approve the computation
You get the draft in plain language, with the figures explained. Nothing is filed until you say yes.
- 4 We file and send the acknowledgement
Filed within 24 to 48 hours of your approval, with the ITR-V acknowledgement delivered to you.
Questions we get asked
I missed 31 July. What now?
A belated return is still possible, with a late fee under section 234F and interest under 234A. The sooner it is filed the less the interest. And note that carry-forward of losses is lost on a belated return.
How many times can I revise?
There is no numerical limit within the window, but each revision replaces the last. Better to get it right once.
Will revising trigger scrutiny?
Revising a return is a normal and lawful act and is not in itself a red flag. Leaving a known error unfixed is the greater risk.
